Have a track schedule, a signal-box diagram, a photograph, a family memoir, or a citation you think belongs in this archive? The site is deliberately reader-editable in spirit: every restored page names its source, and the fastest way to improve accuracy is to hear from the people who worked the lines or hold the paperwork.
What we most want
- Corrections and clarifications to any of the restored schedule pages under /lines/. Please cite the source (working timetable, Sectional Appendix, Signalling Record Society volume, first-hand testimony).
- Missing sections — if you know of a line, junction, or signal box that should have a page and does not, tell us.
- Period photographs where you hold the copyright, or where the image is out of copyright and you can point to a public-domain source.
- Family testimony and oral history — footplate crew, signalmen, station staff, permanent-way gangs, clerks. Even short accounts add texture the paper record loses.
- Bibliographic pointers: books, journals, unpublished dissertations, museum holdings, and archive references we should be citing.
How to send it
Email [email protected] with:
- The URL of the page your submission relates to (or “new page” plus the line/section name).
- Your source or provenance: publication, page number, personal recollection, or the photograph’s origin.
- Any images as attachments (JPEG or TIFF, please, up to 25 MB per message). For larger files, ask and we will send a secure upload link.
- How you would like to be credited on the page: full name, initials, “anonymous contributor,” or a link back to your own site.
What happens next
Submissions are reviewed by the editorial team. Corrections that can be verified from a second source are usually applied within a fortnight and logged on the corrections page. Photograph submissions are treated as a licence to publish only after we have written confirmation of copyright status. We do not use AI-generated period photography anywhere on the archive; any image you send must be a real historical record.
If your submission is time-critical (for example, a photograph offered for sale by a family estate), flag it in the subject line as URGENT and we will prioritise the reply.
